Julie’s Music has evolved out of a long-standing and reputable Ann Arbor family business. Her father, Richard King, started King’s Keyboard House in 1961. As her father approached retirement last year, Julie realized her goal of opening a shop devoted exclusively to sheet music sales. Julie’s Music opened for business on April 29th, 2006.
King’s Keyboard House is now run by Julie’s brother, Jim King. The display room maintains a gleaming selection of high quality acoustic pianos and state-of-the-art digital keyboards, and it is a handy neighbor to Julie’s store, just a few doors down on E. Stadium.
At Julie's Music, the staff’s first priority is friendly and expert customer service. Customers are welcome to come in and browse or seek help that may range from locating an obscure urtext edition to remembering the name of “that blue book with butterflies on the cover.” If you are seeking an item that we don’t have in the store, we are happy to special order items if they’re in print. Our goal is extend the same courteous and efficient service to our online customers.
Music teachers are a major part of Julie’s clientele, and we enjoy an ongoing connection with private teachers as well as local universities such as U of M and Eastern Michigan. In addition, we are delighted to serve individuals from the community and out-lying areas who have a variety of needs: the clarinet player who likes to gather for ensemble playing once a month, the adult beginner who needs help selecting a method, teenagers looking for the latest pop or rock sheet, etc. Finally, with the addition of our band music obtained from Carty’s music, we look forward to serving school band teachers and students in the area.
